AWD initiative.

Our partner, the North Coast Academy of Sport (NCAS) is excited to announce a new AWD program.

The Academy is excited to announce a new sponsor of the AWD Program – FundAbility. The NCAS Athlete with a Disability (AWD) Program is an initiative which aims to provide a structured level of regional support to emerging or existing talented athletes with a disability. Nominations are now open for any AWD athletes looking to apply. The delivery of the AWD program will consist of a mix training days and/or camps depending on the caliber of the athletes. Athletes, coaches and support personnel will also attend the Regional Athlete & Coach Education (RACE) weekend. The camp-based format will be designed to support the AWD pathway and will engage specialist presenters, coaches, sports trainers and mentors to assist the selected athletes and their respective coaches.

The Program is currently based on track & field and swimming events however the academy is looking to expand this program with the introduction of more Paralympic sports to the program as well as wheelchair events.

The program already has a proven record of successful athletes and inclusion into able-bodied Programs. The NCAS AWD Program was developed in 2010 after consultation with state and national bodies. Historically the program has covered the sports of Track & Field, Wheelchair Boccia and Swimming with the hope that more sports will be added in 2015.

The athletes identified would not only be encouraged by the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) and NSW Sport & Recreation Disability Sports Unit but also our own AWD Program coaches and consultants.

Further information about the program can be found by contacting chairman@lordstavernersnorthernnsw.com.au.
